Sometimes-I-just-look-up-smile-and-say-I-know-that-was-you-God.-Thank-youFor everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23 NLT But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8 NLT

This is our God. Sometimes I am overwhelmed with the goodness and awesomeness of the God we serve. Look at our God.

Recently I was talking with one of my children who was going through a tough time and I started sharing about a real life struggle that Pam and I endured. I had struggled financially and now I was living out the fruit of bad financial management. I felt like a failure. I felt like a terrible father and provider, I felt ashamed and hypocritical. I went to bed that night feeling like my world was ending. I cried myself to sleep.

In the morning, the sun shined through my window and I heard a bird singing. God’s love for me had not changed. His mercy was new for me that morning. He loved me in what I felt like was my worst. As I finished sharing that story with my daughter, I said to her, “this is our God!”

God knows we are sinners. Sometimes I add to that word and use the word “broken” in place of “sinner” while still maintaining the personal responsibility for the brokenness. All of us are broken and fall short of God’s perfection. All of us are broken and messed up! God still pursues and loves us, knowing full well that we are broken. This is our God.

He doesn’t ever leave us broken. He doesn’t forget about us. He doesn’t cast us to the side. He doesn’t label us losers. He doesn’t ignore us. He doesn’t give us a cold shoulder. He doesn’t belittle us. This is our God!

Because of Jesus, He draws near. Our God forgives us. Our God loves us, right in the middle of our worst moment. Our God washes us clean as if we had never sinned. Our God takes our broken mess and makes us into a beautiful vessel. Our God is not embarrassed to be associated with us, in fact He wants everyone to know that we are His children. Because of Jesus, Our God says of us, “you are My child in whom I am well pleased.”

Look at my God. He is a friend of the broken and useless. Look at my God who chooses the outcast and unimportant.  Look at my God who pursues the aimless, the wayward, and the prodigal. Look at My God who leaves the ninety and nine to look for the one who is lost.

My God is a perfect father who is kind, wise, loving, forgiving, encouraging, and worthy of all honor. Others may have negative names and thoughts about me, but my God has a new name for me that expresses His faith in me to prosper. Will you look at my God?

This is my God. I hope that you have taken the time to get to know Him. I hope that you let others know how He has come to your aid. Like a child who is proud of their dad as He passes by your friends to do an act of kindness for another, you shout and point excitedly, “that’s MY dad!”  Do you know God in this way? Who are sharing your joy and pride with? Look at my GOD!
