SST JIMBOB HOSANNA

I know that Sunday is Palm Sunday and this is Saturday…but Story Time and Jimbob fit Saturday a little better. I hope you enjoyed his Palm Sunday experience.

Speaking of Palm Sunday, let’s take a closer look at Jesus’ triumphal entry. For us westerners remember that the Jews celebrate Sabbath on Saturday, so Jesus’ entry was on the first day of their week. Unbeknownst to the crowd of worshippers, Jesus would be crucified, died, buried and resurrected 1 week from this point in time.

The Jewish people were ready to anoint Jesus king and see the Romans eradicated from their land. This miracle maker, this food multiplier, this healer of bodies, this person who could raise people from the dead looks like the long awaited Messiah. They knew the prophecy that the Messiah would appear to Jerusalem riding on a donkey.

I have a feeling the disciples let it slip when they talked with the owner of the donkey. “The master has need of it.”  “Why?” asked the owner of the small animal. Perhaps, Peter replied, winking very slowly and emphatically, “The Messiah Master needs it to ride into Jerusalem today!” The aha revelation turned from a grin, to a laughter and then to a shouting to the neighbors…”the Son of David is on His way.” Thanks for giving me poetic license to share my version. 🙂

The shouts of Hosanna reflect their cultural mindset of Psalm 118. Hosanna is a Hebrew emphatic expression which means “Save us, we beseech thee.” Their words were more prophetic than they realized. Jesus knew everything that was about to happen regarding his betrayal and his death. Yet he locked his gaze directly on the path leading to Jerusalem. Why?

He indeed was on a mission to seek and to save the lost, which includes you and me. Our entrance into this relationship boils down to our own cries for Jesus to “save us”. We are incapable of saving ourselves. Jesus is the ONLY one who has earned the right and has the authority to save us from our sinful destiny.

Many will sing Hosanna on Palm Sunday and think of it as a term similar to Hallelujah – Praise to the Lord. But Hosanna is a plea from the depths of our hearts for God to save us. What are your specific cries for salvation right now, beyond your spiritual salvation? What bondages still entangle you? What types of unforgiveness do you need help being set free from? What mountains are too high for you to climb? What barriers are facing you which appear to seem insurmountable?

Cry out Hosanna to the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, Jesus. Let Him be who He is. Submit again and again to His benevolent authority. “Come Save Us!” Jesus we love you.

Blessings Love y’all
