In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8

Perhaps you prayed this nursery rhyme -”Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep,”. I who neither sleep nor slumber watch over you while you are sleeping. It is the most vulnerable position of your life…you are no longer in control.

What happens when restful sleep eludes you? Some of you are so weighed down with the cares of life even your sleep is not restful. Worry taunts you that there will be no solution to your predicaments. Fears that whisper “you don’t have what it takes”, run wildly across your mind looking for places to find a home. Some of you, just stare at the ceiling waiting endlessly for sleep to overtake you.

Spend time reading My word as part of the last actions that you take as you fall asleep. As your last thoughts at night are upon Me, let your first thoughts  be Mine as your arise in the morning. Let us awaken the dawn together. Anticipate that I am whispering to you as soon as your consciousness stretches into the new day. Invite Me to help, and I will come.

As for protection, ask Me to station My angels around you. They are mighty and powerful and will stand guard over you throughout the night. You need only to ask Me to help.

Some of your worry exists, because it is an invitation to make things right between Me and thee. To cast some of your care will require confession. Take the time to voice your sins, so that I may cleanse and restore peace between us. Is there anything you have been withholding and afraid to share with Me? Openness brings hope. I am faithful and just to cleanse you from all of your unrighteousness, just ask.

Let My peace settle your nerves. I am in control and have never stopped leading and guiding you, listen to My Spirit. I give to My beloved even in your sleep. Though sorrow may last for the night, joy comes in the morning.

In peace lie down and sleep. I, your Father, am watching over you.
