My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore. Psalm 131:1-3 NIV

Calm My Heart

Last December, we were having lots of turmoil at the bus shop. People were sick with covid and a family member was killed in a shooting. It was a stressful season right on top of the Christmas hustle and bustle.

One of my directors asked if I would pray on our bus radios which we use to communicate with each other during our routes. I was honored and prayed from my heart.

About a month ago, another bus driver approached me and asked if I remember praying. She said, “that prayer was so meaningful to me, we need more of it. If you feel okay, would you pray for us again?” So the next morning, I keyed up the microphone. I shared a short bible verse and then prayed for all of us. No teaching on the verse, I just went straight to praying.

Over the next few days, more bus drivers approached me to say thanks.  I prayed about 2-3 times a week. Then another shift happened. After the prayer, bus drivers began to respond with “Amen!”, “thank you”, “I needed that.”

Once, as I was pulling into our bus shop I passed a bus who flagged me down in the middle of the road. “I need your prayers”…running late, I needed them too. I chuckled realizing that God’s timing was a little different than mine. As I inquired about her need, she shared that her mom had just been diagnosed with cancer…surprise to everyone. My heart became tender realizing the struggles each person carries.

Today’s devotional for the bus drivers came from Psalm 131:2 – “I have calmed and quieted myself (soul).” I would like to share my prayer thoughts with you which I prayed over our radio this morning.

Dear God the scriptures tells us that we can calm and quiet our souls,
This seems so hard.
Help us…
When the kids are loud and disrespectful
When we are tired from covering routes for a shortage of missing drivers
When gas prices are so high and our budget is being stretched
When our family drama spills over into our work
When the cares of the world have weighted us down
When our cars, appliances and stuff break unexpectedly
When life moves so fast, I don’t have time to drink from still waters
When my To-Do lists is buried under all of my other to-do’s
God help us through the power of Jesus to receive your
peace over our hearts and minds.
Be Still My Soul and know that He is Lord. Amen

I encourage you to share with God your own personal struggles which keep you from quieting your soul

May you make a way for your soul to be refreshed from the peace of the Lord Jesus.

Blessings Love y’all
