Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. Judges 6:36-38 NIV

When I started writing Lessons From Gideon nearly 6 months ago, this was the passage that I was anticipating to write about. So many people can identify with Gideon. He doesn’t see himself the same way that God sees him. His calling is divinely inspired with and face to face encounter with an angel. His mission is clear, “you will deliver God’s people from the oppression of the Midianites”. Yet Gideon hesitates, he asks  God for more signs before he follows through in obedience. Can you relate to determining your next move forward?

I have been meditating on this passage for quite some time. I even punted writing about it last week because I was not ready. I wanted to make sure that I had something “profound” to say. I am committed to sharing these devos in a manner in which God speaks to my heart.

God was faithful to lead me to three ideas to be explored from this portion of Gideon’s life. First, when is it okay to doubt as a child of God? Next, how should a believer approach the role of miraculous signs? And finally, the connection between fleece, dew and anointing. This all starts in the coming weeks.

Today, however, I just want to speak a blessing over your life when disappointment has come your way. Many have prayed to God, bargained with God, pleaded with God for a specific answer. It doesn’t turn out the way that you hoped. God appears to be silent and unmoved by your request. No miraculous sign of wet fleece.

Breathe, God is with you. He has not abandoned you in your time of need. For a moment He turned His face away from Jesus, so that He may always be with you. He draws near as you walk through the valley of death, both physical and circumstantial. He brings life and light to your dark and cold situation. He is faithful even when your bartering appears to have failed.

Having walked in times like these, the main advice that I have to share with you is to speak what is right and true even when you don’t feel like it is. You may not feel God’s love at this moment, but He is still the God that loved the world and He loves you. Making right confessions moves your heart to the place to receive from God’s love instead of living in rejection and bitterness. Say, speak, confess what is true about God to move you through your pain.

Blessings are yours right now, because of the sacrifice of Jesus. His death was totally sufficient to meet your heart needs. May you walk forward today with His presence, even if it is only a slow pace. He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you, AND He always keeps His promises.

Blessing Love y’all
