But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” 47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. Luke 8:46-47 NKJV
Years ago when I was a children’s pastor, I read a book about miracle moments in ministry. Like me, you probably focused on the word miracle, but the author was focused on moments. His theme for the book was transformation in children’s lives happens in moments of an experience. This will be true for both positive and negative situations.
- How many people do you know who get stuck in their spiritual journey because of one event that they felt went sideways?
- How many people can’t move on because they can’t forgive someone who hurt them with words or actions?
- How many people point to a time when another person helped them over a vulnerable moment and they are better?
You can’t plan the moment, but you can respond in a positive way.
Four Takeaways From Her Miracle Moment
- An initial seed of faith
- Her desire to touch Him for healing germinated from a previous event. She heard about Jesus healing or she saw healings with her own eyes.
- These testimonies led who to think, “if He healed them, maybe He could heal me,
- Faith moves forward with a momentary action
- A seed of a thought needs the growth of an action
- Holy Spirit will lead with a still small voice. Faith takes small steps in that direction of the leading.
- Examples of Holy Spirit momentary whispers to your heart
- “Why don’t you ask that person if you can pray for them?”
- “Take a little extra time to read your Bible today”
- “Ask Me, and I will give you wisdom about the decision you need to make today”
- The miracle moment is shared publicly like a beautiful fully bloomed rose
- She was healed, but wanted to remain hidden. Jesus calling her forth to share what happened is being retold throughout eternity.
- Miracle moments gain strong roots when we give testimony to the experiences we have had.
- Important side note – we are tempted to share publicly and repeatedly the negative things that have happened to us to justify why we can keep our hurts. Forgive. Don’t give the devil a foothold to keep you hidden from freedom and peace.
- Jesus stopped everything to celebrate the moment
- Some moments are so significant, time is needed to celebrate and unpack what happened.
- Give thanks and acknowledge how God is moving in your moments.
- Manna from His word needs to be chewed upon
- Encouragement from another person needs to received graciously
- Answers to prayers need an expression of thanksgiving
Our children are vulnerable because they are giving meaning to life through the moments that come their way. Pray for them to hear and experience the tangible reality of God’s love for them. They will speak and live their entire life reflecting on those significant moments of God’s goodness they experienced.
Be watchful today. Somebody is reaching out to Jesus looking for hope that may come in a moment’s time in their interaction with you. May you be aware that transformation is occurring to, in, and through you by Holy Spirit.
Blessings, Love y’all
