Saturday Story Time – God Loves Jimbob First

We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19 NIV

Before love is a feeling, its foundation builds on a choice. In God’s economy the value of that choice has nothing to do with the recipient earning the right to be loved. A person can not be good enough nor bad enough to influence God’s choice to love you. (in that while we were yet sinners, God showed His love by letting His Son, Jesus, die in our place.)

God loves YOU just as much as He loves His Son, Jesus!

You may want to slow down and read that several times. Then let your excuses of “why that can’t be totally true for yourself” be buried under the reality that your screw ups do not push God away from you….only because of the blood of Jesus. But the blood covers ALL of our sin. You are chosen by God as a person for whom He expresses His love.

SO…since God loves us first in the most unconditional way possible…we love others with the same CHOICE OF LOVE. This means we love our spouse – just the way they are. We love our children without having to control them or put unbearable expectations on them. We love our co-workers who speak bad about us and try to make us look bad. We express love to our friends by forgiving them as God forgave us.
