6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7 NIV
There are so many times we can feel overlooked and insignificant. Our problems get bigger than our purpose for which we are called. What is causing your anxiousness today? That is a softer word for fear. Jesus tells us “don’t be afraid.”
Three reasons to be encouraged today from our text.
First, hang out (meditate) on the thought that you are not, nor ever will be forgotten. Just look at the sparrow. There are an estimated 1.6 billion of them found all over the world. They average about 6 inches in length and only weigh about 1 oz. Yet God says not ONE of them is forgotten. And you are worth so much more. Your cause of anxiousness does not go unnoticed. Whether it is financial, health or relational, God sees it.
Second, God is in the details…not the devil. As we get older, there is a daily recounting of the number of hairs on our head, at least it appears more are disappearing than growing. We have a wonderful invention called the mirror which gives a perfect reflection of who we are or at least what we look like. God knows you better than your mirror. He even knows more about your anxious situation than you do. We have limited facts about our crisis, but God knows every detail. He invites us to share with Him and to listen to His response
Third, God wants you to know that you are valuable. We are the one lost sheep, the lost coin, the Zacchaeus in the tree, the prodigal son he runs toward, the woman caught in adultery, the child crying in a room from abandonment, the addict who sits messed up again, the one in financial collapse, and the marital mess up. NONE of these detract from God’s assessment that you are of great value to Him. He knew all of this and said, “I love you so much, I will exchange my life for yours.”
Take a moment today to look and at least listen for the birds…maybe it is not a sparrow, but it will point you in the right direction. God never forgets your name, He cares about the details, and He thinks you are worth loving.
I thought this would be a great time to add a blog, while I’m on a mission trip to Pakistan with a lay over in Qatar. So many people for God to love. May God use me to bring His love, remembrance and encouragement.
Blessings, Love y’all
