th-3The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle. The man’s oration to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal: Proverbs 30:1 CSB

The above verse is a close literal translation of each of the words in Hebrew. However, names were not capitalized, and when it is the only time the word is found in the Bible, is it a name or do you use the meaning? Look how the International Version translates the same verse.

A discourse by the faithful collector. This is what this valiant man declared to the God with me, to the God with me, who then prevailed:  Proverbs 30:1 ISV

  • Agur means “gathered”. Like someone who has gathered wisdom sayings
  • Jakeh means “pious or faithful” some have this as a reference the King David.
  • Ithiel is repeated twice and means “God is with me”
  • Ucal means “to be strong, powerful or prevails”

Sorry for the long intro…but the man’s declaration sounds like the cry of many hearts.  “God is with me, God is with me..who is strong and powerful OR why can’t I prevail”

On the one hand the first ending reflects Paul’s words, “if God is for us, who then, can be against us?” This would be a strong faith declaration to see victory from God’s presence.

Conversely the alternate second ending hearkens to Jesus call on the cross, “my God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” In the midst of our struggles we are confused  about the lack of God’s power and presence to deliver us from the situation.

Understand this today…it is okay to be intellectually honest with God about your feelings and struggles. HE is worth the pursuit. Don’t quit to quickly in your pursuit to know His ways. He said, “if you seek me, you WILL find me.” You will prevail, because God IS with you.

Blessings Love y’all.
