I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. Psalms 16:7 NIV
Can you define in words to another how My Spirit communicates with you? This intimacy is available to every person in the world, the ability to hear My voice whisper to your spirit. It is also incredibly personal so that I know how best to talk with each one individually. You must learn to differentiate your own thoughts from My voice in order to receive my counsel.
When I created Adam and Eve we had perfect interaction, uninterrupted. Sin changed all of that. Still, the ability to know My voice was left in place. Sin caused a barrier of communicating. I still speak, but My voice is unrecognized. Like the prophet Samuel, as a child who I called by name, instructions are helpful to discern how I speak.
Like you, I know what it feels like to be shunned and rejected when I have something important to say. I know how hurtful it is to have a helpful opinion that is ignored. I understand the experience of being pushed aside because of too many distractions. I am well versed in My counsel being shelved so that you can go your own way without Me.
I know the tension of fear and trust when My whisper comes to you. How can I help you to truly know it is Me? My words lead to life. I will never ask you to bring harm to the innocent or shame to a friend. I encourage and build up others. Even if the path is difficult, My way leads to freedom, hope and light. I ask you to follow and do not push you with the condemnation of “I’ll get you if you don’t obey.” I just know what is best for you and lead you to green pastures and life giving water.
At night, when the words of the day are coming to a close, listen. I speak of the events of your day and engage with your thoughts of tomorrow. Ask Me. Let Me share about My love for you and counsel you in the way that you should go. Ask Me to increase your boldness to trust in My counsel. Remember My faithfulness and let that guide you in the paths of right living.
I am here with you right at this moment. I am especially close in your place of need. Listen.
