Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. 2 Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?” 3 Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. 4 But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands. 5 They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.6 They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.7 They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats.8 Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them. Psalm 115:1-8 NIV
Adam: God, we were made in your image, is it not right that we retain some of your glory? We parade the best among us. We honor the strongest, the fastest, the smartest, and the ones who exhibit the most beauty in all of the world.
Father: It is true the glory of old men is their wisdom and the glory of the young is their strength. Both are gifts for you to honor one another. The key is to understand they are gifts from Me.
Adam: But Father, look what I have made with my own hands. Look what I have built through my own strength. Look at how I have fashioned and designed what has never been made before. I did this.
Father: You bear the image of My creativity. As you watch your children draw you pictures, I also adore your creations. I love to see the individuality of your accomplishments. I am not in competition with your creativity. I am for all things righteous. Why worship what your hands have made?
Adam: I created a machine which can think and act like me. It makes less mistakes and is closer to perfection than I am. It thinks faster and makes better decisions. What is man that you are mindful of him? Would you have wanted a perfect computer response in us? Is not the pursuit of the perfect computer worth worshipping?
Father: When I breathed My spirit of life into you, you became a living being. I loved you then and I love you now. I created your heart to experience the capacity to give and grow in loving relationships. Your sinful choice of choosing life apart from Me has damaged the perfection of all relationships. Even in your broken state, I still love you. Stewarding life is more than processing information.
Father: You can’t clean yourself up without Me. I don’t count this against you. Rather, I am looking for humility which recognizes the need for My help. All who recognize their thirst for My living water may come to Me. I am the God who loves to give instead of taking.
Adam:Thank you Father for extending your grace to my arrogance again and again. Not to us, not to us, but to your name truly belongs the glory. Forgive us for exalting our ability to speak, see, listen, taste, or create with our own hands. For from You and through You and to You are all things. To You belongs the glory forever.
Father: Adam you were created with a desire to love and worship. Mankind and all that you see is temporal and has limited ability to fulfill what you hope it will do for you. But, My love is eternal. My life is shared freely with My children. My hope will satisfy the longings of your heart again and again. My joy is not from this world, so it sustains you with strength from above. Allow your spirit man to taste and see that I am indeed good. I will perfect what I have started in you. I keep My promises concerning you. As a father has compassion on his children…so I love you.
