Saturday Story Time – Jimbob, YOU – An Ambassador for Christ

Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 NIV

I recently heard a message by Craig Groeschel encouraging us to live out our identity as Ambassadors for Christ. His definition for an Ambassador is the highest ranking official sent by a country to promote and protect its interests. As such, we are representing the kingdom of God to the world.

Growing up in a Baptist church, I participated in the boys RA group, Royal Ambassadors. It was similar to the Boy Scouts organization, but integrating Christ as the main points. Here is the pledge which I still remember.

As a Royal Ambassador I will do my best…To become a well informed, responsible follower of Christ; To have a Christlike concern for all people; To learn how to carry the message of Christ around the world; To work with others in sharing Christ; and to keep myself clean in mind and body.

Jesus said we would be lights, that should not be hidden under a basket. We should boldly be noticed like a city on a hill. There is no middle ground. There are no secret Ambassadors, part time Ambassadors, neutral Ambassadors, and definitely not switching allegiance back and forth between the country they came from, i.e. the kingdom of the world and the kingdom of God.

Today, you and I will carry the person of Jesus into our world of influence, our family, friends, work, city and beyond. We will have the privilege to share His values in word and deed. We have opportunities to share the message of hope to those closest to us and those who we meet along the way. AND God gives you the strength, power and authority to do what He calls you to do through the abiding presence of His Spirit.

Sounds like a pretty good day to hold your head up and walk with a pep in your step. As a follower of Jesus, YOU are an Ambassador for Christ.
