Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 NIV

Manna Minute – I Live By God’s Words

In the future, these Manna Minutes will be shorter entries. Today, I want to lay the groundwork for the daily pattern.

Manna was a seed like substance supernaturally provided for the children of Israel for food as they followed God in the desert on the way to the promised land.  Each day early in the morning the people would go gather the Manna (lit. what is it) to grind it up and make into bread probably more like a pancake. Six days God would allow the Manna to fall on the ground and it only lasted for that day…it would decay over night. When they crossed over the Jordan river into the promised land, the manna stopped. The promised land had food for their daily provision.

Jesus’ reply to Satan asking him to turn rocks into food for himself was our verse for today. Jesus highlighted that God’s word provided more “life” to us than food. Jesus was personally illustrating His trust in His Father as provider.

A Manna Minute will highlight one of the 1000’s of promises made in the Bible for His children. Here is the pattern, which you can follow.

  • I will read the verse.
  • Make a couple of comments
  • Rephrase the verse to personalize it for me
  • By faith receive the promise – which means I receive it as true for me, even if it does not look real at the moment. God’s word is truer than my reality.
  • Give God thanks for His provision.

Manna Minute for Today

  • Verse –Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
  • Comment – Jesus was hungry, but still followed God’s ways. Obedience triumphs over compromise.
  • Rephrase – God’s word feeds me in a way more substantial than physical food.
  • Faith expression – Today, I live by God’s words which He speaks to me. By faith, I will say “no” to temptations and “yes” to Holy Spirit making a way of escape. God’s words are LIFE to me.
  • Prayer – I am thankful that God’s word gives life to my spirit, soul and body. May I consistently learn to hide your word in my heart that I may not sin against you. You created us and YOU know what food we need to be healthy, think clearly, and be intimate with You all day long. Thank you. In Jesus name, Amen.

Blessings

Love y’all
