Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143:10 NIV
When I read the first part of this verse, I think of the many times when I have asked God to help me “know” His will for my life. In Hebrew thought, the relationship with God placed more stress on the “doing” rather than the “knowing”.
We “do His will” for many reasons, but not to gain more favor, or try to become more acceptable to God. Jesus is the only way to have favor with God. It is so easy to try to highlight those things we have done right, to justify why God should help us out. We somehow fail to remember the times when we have strayed from the straight and narrow.
Why do we ask God to teach us to do His will?
His ways lead to level paths for us. I’m thinking of Paul encouraging us to live by the fruit of the Spirit – for against these things there is no law. Every step along God’s path leads to peace to make another right decision. Even when adversity comes, you will be standing in the right direction to follow God’s lead.
May we position our lives, humble ourselves, have a teachable spirit, to be taught of the Lord how we “do His will” throughout our day. It will be a day filled with integrity, fear of the Lord, doing justly, honoring others as more important than yourself, forgiving other’s trespasses, being light in the darkness, sharing God’s good news, and walking humbly before your God. And God’s good Spirit is leading all the way.
It’s a great day to praise the Lord, for there is so much to “do”.
Blessings
Love y’all
