idoaltry charles spurgeon7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” 1 Cor 10:7  NIV

Aaron said…“Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.” 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry. Exodus 32:5-6. NIV

Does this sound familiar? People attend church on Sunday, but spend the rest of the week pursuing their own joys and pleasures. How can we compartmentalize our relationship with God so easily? How can we pray, sing, and listen to God’s word and then forget it all that afternoon?

Idolatry! Starting with the capital I. When we orchestrate our time and money to fulfill our own comfort and pleasures, we are using stuff to worship ourselves. Phrases like, “God, wants me to be happy”, reveal the short sightedness of our view of our relationship with God.  He desires love and obedience first.

We all stand guilty of living in ignorance to our own failures. Pray that God would reveal idols, hidden agendas, actions to preserve our own life, and blindness to our own compartmentalization. He is after our heart…all of it.

Blessings, Love y’all
