th-13Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. Psalm 25:8 NIV

I am not a great golfer, but I enjoy going with my sons and friends.  As a young teen, I use to watch Lee Trevino give tips on how to use different clubs and the proper swing. That name drop definitely dated my age. Still I struggled to keep a consistent straight shot for the long ball. I would slice or hook the ball frequently…until.

I went to a range with a bucket of balls. Stopped and watched a couple of instructional youtube videos on my phone . There was my answer. Shift my weight to the back foot before swinging. I am still amazed at the impact of making such a small adjustment.

God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good. That is the starting point, the middle point and the end point to filter the drama of our lives. That doesn’t mean that the bad and yucky stuff that happens has to be redefined as good. Accidental death is a tragedy, divorce hurts everyone, betrayal is emotional rape, and addictions can cause lifelong crippling of optimal potential. Yet, God is still good, how?

First, He is always moving toward us. Our sinfulness and tragic circumstances do not repulse Him. Rather, He draws closer still. “God is near to the broken hearted.” We are always tempted to think that “I am too bad, too far gone, not good enough for God to draw near to me, or damaged merchandise.” Yet, because He is good and because Jesus removed the closed door of our rebellion, He comes to us.

Secondly, He teaches or instructs us how to follow His path leading to light and truth. Even though we may consider ourselves unworthy, He comes and teaches. When we begin to follow His leading, we make small, sometimes big, adjustments to the activities in our lives which then produce wonderful transformations. I tell kids that one right decision always leads to possibilities of more right decisions. It is a good path to follow.

Can we celebrate, be thankful, and honor God today that He instructs sinners, like us, in the way of His goodness? He has promised to do it. Our responsibility is to follow His lead. May you make the adjustments to get into the proper swing of being an effective follower of Jesus.

Blessings Love y’all
