Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! I John 3:1
My daughter Melody ran her first duathlon (10 mile bike and 3.1 mile run) yesterday at Lake Lurleen, called Dirt, Sweat and Gears. I decided to join her on the running portion after she finished the biking. My role was to encourage her to finish the race. The trail was through the woods following the outline of the lake.
At one point, I began to sing a song from the late 1970’s by Marantha Singers. Many of the songs written during that time were scripture songs which helped you sing and meditate on Bible verses. They were simple tunes, repetitive and short. So, I sang. “Behold, what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the sons of God.” My singing was not that great, but it definitely helped us realize that we were special people on the path that we were running.

- “Behold” is the Greek word ὁράω (hor-ah’-o). Metaphorically it means to see with the mind. You would concentrate on a thought to grasp a concept in your mind to have the “aha” moment. You have probably heard the expression from a friend, “Oh, now I see.” They gain an inward understanding.
- “What manner” literally means from what country. It means to discern what is the origin of a matter. A person would be interested in “where something came from”.
- “Has given to us” is the greek word for lavished. We would use the term drenched. It is not getting a little wet during a sprinkling of the rain. Rather, this is the soaking that you get during a downpour. Everything gets wet so that you are dripping with water.
May God awaken you to the wonderful status that He has bestowed upon you that you are called His children. Behold is not a passive activity, rather it means to intentionally center your focus to gain understanding. God has drenched and is drenching you with His love so that you live today as a King’s kid.
Your thoughts and actions should be consistent with who you really are – a son or daughter of God our Father. All of this love originates from the Father and is not based on your deserving or underserving actions. Put on your royal clothes, you will be representing your Father today. May you Behold His love today.
Blessings Love y’all
