A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” Matt 15:22 NIV.

A gentile woman recognized who Jesus really was…the Messiah. She somehow understood that she could approach this man and ask for a favor. God is always at work raising awareness in the hearts of others that He exists. Ask God for sensitivity to recognize those who are seeking God. It might be somebody you least suspect.

She asked for Mercy which means an action expressing compassion or pity toward one who doesn’t deserve it. The only qualification to become a recipient of the mercies from God is a realization that you have a need that you can’t fix AND you must ASK for it as a gift to be received.

Nobody likes to be in a situation that is beyond your control to fix it. There is a humility that accompanies the broken-hearted in need of mercy. Can you name three areas of your life in which you need the mercies of God right now?

This woman knew that she could approach Jesus at the time of her need, how about you? When do you cry for mercy? God is still slow to anger and abounds in loving kindness showing mercy and favor. The mercies of the Lord are new every morning…for this I am grateful.
