How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. Psalms 31:19. NIV
On a percentage scale, how much of all of the worlds knowledge do you possess? 10%? 30%? 60%? If you are still not a follower of Jesus, could it be that God’s love for the world in Jesus exists in that portion of knowledge that you still lack? God’s love unfolds into our lives through His Word (the Bible) and the declarations of those who have been changed by Him (followers of Jesus).
For His followers, there are also good things stored up as a blessing.
- There is an abundance of blessings. The Hebrew word abundance translated means great, many, abundant. Even if you tried to dream up all of the things stored up for you from God, it would still not add up to His abundance. He is the God of “much more”.
- He has good stuff for you…blessings. Jesus understood this thought when he declared that If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11 NIV James makes it clear, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17. I’ll start you with one idea of His goodness – His abiding presence in your life.
- These blessings are stored up. This word means hidden like a treasure. In other words, these blessings will continually be “uncovered” or “experientially found”. It would be similar to presents on Christmas morning that are covered in gift wrapping. The child has such joy and excitement in the process of discovering what is hidden inside. These are not hidden beyond our ability to find them. Rather, He promises, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 NIV.
As you begin your week, be greatly encouraged today because of God’s abundant blessings that are hidden and stored for you. He delights in pouring forth His goodness to you each and every day. Can you identify specific ways that He is blessing you? Spend some time thanking Him for His expressions of goodness.
