7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, Philippians 3:7-9a NIV
I have a confession to make
I dig through my garbage can
Don’t try to judge me yet
I’m just like every other man
There are things that we value
We consider them to have some worth
We’ve placed them on our mantels
They’ve been displayed since birth
I became a follower of Jesus
Overwhelmed by his sacrifice of love
He gave me eyes to see things differently
I gained perspective from above
I threw some of my pride in the can
My great accomplishments I tossed away
I started with a new standard
Their not important, I began to say
Then I saw a glimmering star
Why did I throw it in that place
I took it out and brushed it off
It needed a more prominent space
I began to rummage through my can
Finding what is important to me
Who am I really anyway
Display my pride for people to see
I bring my can with me
Everywhere I go
There’s something I may need
Something I want to show
Then, Jesus
I was reminded once again of value
When I carried my can to His cross
Absolutely nothing can compare
I now count it all as loss
I have a confession to make
I’m tempted to dig in my garbage can
Then I remember the love of my Savior
He is not like any other man
