coming in and going out

You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. Deuteronomy 28:6 NIV

We serve an incredible God, whose ways are higher than ours. He shows mercy to others when we believe they don’t deserve it. Jesus said, that we should love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Why? So that we are acting as true children of our Father, God. And how does He act? He lets the sun rise on both the evil and the good and the rain falls on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:44-45). That is a Father’s heart.

Is there anything “special” that God has in store for his children? Are there “extra” benefits for becoming a follower? This is not a question to minimize the totality of His grace expressed to us in our salvation which included the sacrifice of His son, Jesus. We truly deserve no more, knowing that our sins are washed away and removed from us, as far as the east is from the west so that we can become children of God. Selah (that’s a poetic term in the Psalms which some believe it means to pause…stop and appreciate what was just said).

Knowing and appreciating our salvation, God does make distinctions in the Bible for those who He calls His own. He sends “favor” to those who have decided to receive Him as Lord and determine to walk in His ways. Even the discipline and correction that we receive is considered the “favored” actions of a loving Father

In Deuteronomy 28, Moses records the blessings for the nation of Israel as they purpose to follow the ways of the Lord. In verse 6 it is recorded that you will be blessed in your coming in and in your going out. May you walk in the fullness of this expression throughout this week.  The following are some thought prompters for you to consider how broad is the scope of blessings for your coming in and going out.

When you are coming in...be blessed with sufficient paychecks for your bills and to give generously, be blessed with safety in all modes of travel, be blessed to have a home that is full of love and a refuge, be blessed with a sense of accomplishment for completion of the “to do lists” that have been hanging over you, be blessed for wholesome and life-giving conversations that you had throughout your day, be blessed with the knowledge that you were obedient to the ways of God, be blessed that you were tempted but overcame the temptation through the word and the blood of the Lamb, be blessed that you took the opportunity to be a faithful witness and shared the love of God.

When you are going out…May you be blessed with renewed strength from a great night’s sleep that was free of anxiety, be blessed with a clear mind that is submitted to the thoughts and ways of God, be blessed with “more than enough” (your only debt is to love others who so desperately need to know that they are loved by God also), be blessed with a warm and loving family that are encouraging to one another, be blessed with a clear sense of calling and purpose that God has prepared in advance for you to walk in, be blessed in your endeavors to good to all those who come across your path, be blessed in your productivity at work or school, be blessed with new and creative expressions that help advance the struggles that people are facing, and be blessed with the abiding presence of the Father who has promised to never leave you nor forsake you.

Today, may you be blessed in your comings and goings as “favored” children of God.

Blessing Love y’all
