For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. Philippians 3:18-19 NIV
Why live as an enemy of the cross
Why so much hatred on display
Love died on a hill called calvary
Why should it cause a person such dismay
What wrong did Jesus do
When He died upon that tree
Such passionate division and strife
Separating friends and family
Those who think only of themselves
Driven by earthly desires for more
Consuming pleasures of food and pain
Conscience seared like never before
These enemies are real people
Quarantined themselves from love
Hope for them is still possible
With divine help from above
Do I love my enemies who hate the cross
The message of good news, they’ve heard
Rejected the offer to love and life everlasting
Surrender to Jesus, they think that’s absurd
God’s wisdom found on the cross
It’s foolishness from a worldly view
Men would rather go their on way
Exchange not, their old life for the new
To turn and walk toward the cross
It’s a path that goes against the flow
Grab as many as you can along the way
Eternal life in Jesus may they come to know
