Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let’s go back and tell the people at the palace.” 2 Kings 7:9 NLT
This is a great story of God’s provision in the midst of horrific circumstances. The Aramean army laid siege against the city of Jerusalem. The walls protected them from harm. But the Arameans camped outside and were waiting to starve out the people. It was working. You can read all of it in 1 Kings 7.
Four leprous men were also dying of starvation (in critical times those dependent on generosity also suffer greatly). If they remained where they were, they would die of starvation. If they surrendered to the Aramean Army they might be killed or they might be helped. They decided to go to the Army in the middle of the night.
Prior to their arrival, God had sent the sound of mighty armies surrounding the Arameans. They fled in haste, afraid for their lives, leaving everything behind. When the leprous men arrived, the camp was deserted and empty. They found abundance of food, drink and treasures. After eating for a moment, they had the revelation that our verse of today recounts.
Good news of abundance is not to be hoarded, but shared.
Some of you are rich in family…there are many who are lonely who are waiting for your contact
Some of you are rich in wealth…give often as the Lord directs
Some of you are rich in creativity…share what you create
Some of you are rich in hospitality…keep opening your doors
Some of you are rich in encouragement…Oh, there are so many in need of your words and actions to find them as a person of value
Some of you are rich in love…you have been blessed to be an expression of love to those who are bankrupt from abuse, broken promises, and fear
Some of you are rich in Jesus…repeat the good news of salvation often, there are many who have never heard that they can be free and become a child of God and find eternal peace.
Can you identify the abundance blessings that you have been given? It is not right to keep it to yourself. Now is the best time to share your abundance with others.
Blessing Love y’all
