A pair of muddy hands working a piece of clay into a bowl shape.

He comforts us whenever we suffer. That is why whenever other people suffer, we are able to comfort them by using the same comfort we have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:4 GOD’s Word Translation.

We are all flawed and imperfect even as followers of Jesus. Even with that imperfection, Jesus’s choice is to use imperfect authorities to expose our blindness to our own frailties, prejudices, decisions, and sin. Sparks fly as iron sharpens iron. Let the molding happen even when the situation seems to be getting too hot. It’s hard to remain humble and pliable when someone is resetting a broken bone. Too many run away from the pain, that can bring healing.

Jesus looks at us in our worst moment and does not reject us. On the contrary, He draws near with full acceptance and compassion. Yet, we are afraid to let other  members of the body of Christ to come that close to us. Our stiff arm keeps them at a safe distance for our own comfortableness. Could others truly express love to us from the same well as the love of Jesus?

I have had several people who have loved me with Jesus’ love and compassion throughout my lifetime. As I went through one of my darkest valleys of rejection, sinfulness and healing, I can still hear Pastor Eric’s words, “Greg, we are not going anywhere, we love you!” His words inspired hope for God to rebuild my broken life.

Hurt people hurt people. A healing (notice healing is ongoing not just a past tense healed) hurt person can comfort another with the same comfort that they have received. It requires both parties to remain under the fire of exposed consequences of actions.  It ain’t pretty, but it works.

To be the hands and feet of Jesus sounds noble. Hands and feet get dirty from contact with the world. Don’t wash the mud and clay off too quickly when shaping and molding the pot on the wheel that our master is making. Pressure is a needed action to work out the lumps. You don’t have to do all the shaping, just apply your gifting to the situation. The Master always has the full, complete and beautiful ending in mind.

Jesus went and stayed at Zacchaeus house all day when no one else saw in him what Jesus saw. They discounted him, yet transformation happened during that time. Do you have some discounted people in your world of influence? Are you one who is broken? Draw close to the body of Christ (his followers) and let them teach you the power of committed love.

Blessings Love y’all
