He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. Revelation 3:12 NKJV

My Granddaddy Rogers was a great checkers player, at least that was my perspective as a young whippersnapper. He had a rule that changed the game strategy completely. “If you were forced into a jump, you had to take it.” More than once this would lead to a set up for a triple jump combination that was his next move. I was constantly on the defensive throughout my loss.

In every letter to the seven churches John records the same admonition…To the one who overcomes. Overcomes in Greek is nikōn (notice the reference to Nike) and in this sentence is a Present Participle Active. This means the action is currently taking place or is taking place repeatedly. This is not referring to an action taken once in our past. Yes, there are past victories, but the focus is on a continuous overcoming.

All the letters to the churches indicate that there is a battle and struggles that we will have to endure. There is a fight that has come to us. We are not the initiators, but the defenders. In every situation that the churches face, there is victory that is happening. Overcoming goes to the one who remains on the battlefield. The “Victory” has already been purchased by Jesus. We need to follow His lead.

There is always an invitation to give up, to quit, to coast or give in. Stand up! Get Re-engaged! Look to the author and the finisher of our faith and follow Jesus. He is your Alpha and Omega, your beginning and your end.  He was before you and will be in front of you to cheer you on to the finish.

The world and all that it has to offer is not the “real game” that we are playing. It is for the Lamb of God and His reward. Shake off the sins that so easily entangle and keep your eye on Jesus. Let your love from Christ be instrumental in rescuing those who are lost and without hope. May God’s passion for people burn within your heart to move you to remain on the harvest field. Somebody’s life is counting on you to remain overcoming.

You are an overcomer who is overcoming.

Blessings Love y’all
