The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him. Nahum 1:7

I scanned the stands one more time and still did not see him. I was about 10 years old playing little league football on a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon. I had heard that my dad might come to the game to see me play. Throughout the course of the game I would like to say I gave it 100 percent, but that was not true. I did indeed play my best, but I was distracted as I kept playing the game and watching the stands. I never saw him.

One of the wonderful blessings of our relationship with the Lord Jesus is His promise to never leave us nor forsake us. In the good times, in the bad times, when you are sleeping, when you are playing, when you are acting righteously, when you are choosing to sin, when you are happy, when you are sad, when you are consciously thinking about God in worship, and when life overwhelms your mind – God is ever present with you as His child.

King David penned this idea of His abiding presence in Psalm 139. The whole chapter is worth meditating upon each day, here is a portion, verses 7-12

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave,[a] you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

In our verse today, the prophet Nahum states the God is close to those who trust Him. God keeps His word. Through the Holy Spirit, He abides with us always. You are not walking this life alone any longer. As an added bonus, He places you into the spiritual body of Christ. You are connected to the saints now and to the great cloud of witnesses cheering you on to the finish line.

This Monday Mantra is for you. Even though you may feel alone, overly stressed, or defeated, God’s love and presence remains close. Be still and know that God is with you. He always keeps His word even when you feel that you don’t deserve it.

I never saw my physical dad that day at the game. God has reminded me more than once that He was there. Words can not fully convey the warmth and joy of His abiding presence in all circumstances, I am glad that He knows us that well.

Blessings, Love y’all
