Jimbob looses a friend in today’s audio which parallels Jesus taking our place. Mom and Dad this will be an opportunity to talk about eternal things, salvation and the Lamb of God.
Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign[b] on the earth.” Revelation 5:1-10
Since Christmas I have been listening to Maverick City Music’s Album – Maverick City Christmas 2020. The first song is O Come let us Adore Him, which morphs into He alone is worthy. At one point the singer focuses on “you deserve the glory, for you are worthy of it all”. I find myself humming and rehearsing these thoughts repeatedly throughout the day and night.
John wept and wept because no one was found to be worthy to open the seals. All heaven rejoices as the Lamb of God is revealed to be the one worthy to open the seals. Read the new song which burst forth in His presence.
“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign[b] on the earth.” Revelation 5:1-10
“Worthy” from HELPS Word-studies 514 áksios (an adjective derived from aksō, “to weigh”) – properly, to weigh in, assigning the matching value (“worth-to-worth”); worthy, i.e. as the assessment in keeping with how something “weighs in” on God’s balance-scale of truth.
We get our word Axis from this Greek word. The image is the point on a balance scale in the middle of the two weights. Without Jesus there is no way we could be brought into a relationship with God. He literally is the dividing line between God and mankind. He earned the right to stand in the gap and paid for it with his blood in death. His resurrection put the stamp of God’s approval of His sacrifice forever and ever. There will never be another way to God. Jesus is the Lamb of God who is worthy of it all.
No matter what situation you are facing at this moment, the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace, Read and memorize Revelation 5:1-10. Well, actually there are only 4 more verses, go ahead and add them to memorization. Can you find yourself in majesty of this worship event in heaven?
May this be the year you get to introduce someone to Jesus as they become a follower of their Lord and Savior. When Jesus becomes the most prized and worthy possession of your life, you can’t help but share about Jesus. Jimbob, in our story today, finds and appreciates the worthiness of the lamb. May you experience and value your salvation, purchased by the Lamb of God
