26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]? Matthew 6:26-27 NIV
Galileo, 1564-1643, was an Italian astronomer who started off studying to be a doctor but switched to Mathematics. In 1609 he made improvements to a spyglass and invented the telescope. He was the first person to observe the mountains and valleys of the moon which people had previously thought was flat.
In 1632, he published a book which supported Copernicus’s theory that the Earth and planets revolved around the Sun, instead of the universe revolving around the Earth. This teaching was contradictory to the Catholic Church teachings. The Inquisition of the Church found him guilty of heresy and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Because of his age, he served the term in house arrest for his remaining life . What happens when we realize “our personal universe” does not revolve around us?
Jesus told us that we are more valuable than birds of the air, who find food without making provision. The flowers of the field break forth into a beautiful array of colors without worrying, so shall our heavenly Father, provide for our needs.
Having a valuable status before God, does not make us the center of attention. God says we are valuable, and He doesn’t lie.
When your life starts revolving around your worries, your worlds have gone out of orbits. When your thoughts become fixated on pleasing yourself and meeting your own perceived needs, you have diminished your value. When your words are dominated by “me and I” your vision of life is spiralling into the black hole of self-centeredness.
I lived next door to an antique dealer. One time I asked him how much a furniture dresser would cost. He replied, “as much as someone would pay for it.” The value rested solely in the one who was willing to purchase the item. They determined how much they were ready to sacrifice to obtain the product.
God’s love is on full display, when in his love for us, Jesus died for the sins that we committed. Jesus took our place in death that we may experience life everlasting.
God says you are much more valuable and you are. Today on this Monday Mantra, listen to God declare your value and worth, He loves you and wants you to live as one highly favored. Your new birth has given you the status of a king’s kid. From this lofty position, Jesus gave us the perfect example at the pinnacle of importance, of how we then should live.
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:14-17.
Change your orbiting, Give value to others by serving. Hold your head up high today, knowing that you are much more valuable than the birds of the air. Bow your knee to serve others, preferring others as more important than you are. Following the example of Jesus is not understood or popular, but it is worth living out the rest of your life following His path.
Blessings, Love y’all
