“‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’ Numbers 6:23-25 NIV
Today, God is smiling at you! Me? Yeah, You!
One pastor said that he closes his counseling sessions by praying the Aaronic priestly prayer over the session. When he comes to the phrase, “the Lord turn his face toward you”, he tells them, he likes to think that God is smiling at them.
It is interesting in this short prayer that the word “face” is mentioned twice. In the first instance it is a broader concept like the sun shining on everyone below. God’s love is for everyone. His goodness is over all His work.
In the second phrase it is more individualistic. It carries the idea that God is directing His gaze toward a singular person. He is looking to lock eyes with you. He wants you to see the openness of His heart. The bent of His demeanor is for good and not to harm you, to give you a hope and future.
At this point if you had a stare contest, God would win. His love and favor are continually poised in your direction. You can’t earn this type of affection, no matter how good you have been recently. You can’t make Him flinch or turn away by being bad, Jesus took that punch for you on the cross when the Father looked away. The repulsiveness of your selfish actions have been washed away in His shed blood on the cross. He is still smiling at you.
His smile communicates His desire for intimacy with you. He invites you to bring the conversation that is already going on in your mind to Him. Talking and listening to God will lead to joy and possibly laughter, because He knows you so well.
The warmth of His smile penetrates through the cold barriers of insecurity which you may be feeling. To be loved unconditionally may feel a little awkward and uncomfortable, especially if you did not experience this as a child. But God created you to enjoy moments of shared love together. You have the capacity, the ability and whatever is needed to experience the warmth of God’s love.
So, today….smile. It’s that little secret to know that God smiled at you and you are smiling back. Smile at others, as God gives you opportunities to wear His smile on your face that others may need. Smile because you know God wins and is victorious over all of the troubles which you are facing today. Smile and let the joy and favor of God rest on your life. His face is turned toward you and giving you peace
Blessings, Love y’all 🙂
