For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar. Psalm 138:6 ESV
How close do you really think I can be to you? There are conditions of the heart which beckon Me to come near. At other times I feel the stiff-arm of independence, and I honor that expression.
So why do I draw near to the lowly? What makes a broken and contrite heart appealing to Me? It is not that I want your life to be a mess. I do not want the troubles of life to rise up like a flood to overwhelm you. But it is true that during those times, your heart yearns for the reality of My help, My presence. Seek Me and you will find Me.
To call upon Me need not be in trouble only. True worship places your joy and hope in Me. When you lose sight of My goodness, My involvement, you quickly trust in your own skills and abilities. As a child lets go of the hand helping them to walk, so your heart becomes proud and sufficient. Though the child is happy with their new found skills, I am following close behind.
I have heard your prayers. “God if you are real, why do you feel so far away? Father, God, my life is a mess, why would You come close to help someone like me? Why would the God who created heaven and all things, desire to come and abide continually in my heart and life?”
As a father has compassion on his child, so I am drawn to you My child. I formed you, created you, fashioned you, that you and I would walk through life together. There is no valley of defeat so dark and low that bars me from walking with you step by step. My heart is stirred to be with the broken and lowly and that includes you.
As the sun moves toward the dawn to bring light upon My creation below, so I am drawn to the lowly, the invisible, those who feel undeserving, the outcast, the mistreated, those whose life has been humbled, and the head that is bowed with tears. Feel the warmth of My light and love. It is for you.
For the next moments, rest. I am here. Listen once again for My whisper of My love for and toward you.
