15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”   Genesis 9:15-16

Jimbob’s Rainbow Promise
Audio Blog – Saturday Story Time

The rainbow is a reminder that God keeps His promises. I know people have lost their lives in flooding since the great flood which covered the earth in Noah’s time. BUT the whole earth has not been consumed by water again. God has kept His promise.

We are not God in that we are not capable of keeping all of our promises, BUT we can try to do our best. The commitments we make with our mouths are important. We build credibility when we do what we say we are going to do. We extend grace and mercy to those who have broken their promises to us, just like we hope people will do with us. You might want to read that last sentence again slowly and see if there is someone you need to forgive and extend grace and mercy.

What does the Bible say about keeping your word.?

  1. 4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. 5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it. 6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands? 7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God. Ecc 5:4-7

Jesus said that those who SAY the love Me, will keep my commandments. There is a correlation between the commitments made with our mouths and our actions to fulfill what we have spoken.

Our son Micah loved Legos – still does. One Christmas, Pam and I had promised him a trip to Legoland in California. It took several years to fulfill that promise, but we finally did it. I think it was more important to us to know that we kept that promise for him. Sometimes life situations did not allow us to do everything we would have liked to do for our children. Our kids have extended grace for those times when we failed to do what we said, but we wanted them to know that we try to keep our word.

Whether big or small matters, keep your word when it is within your ability to do so. When you have forgotten and then remember, make it happen. This would include small chores around the house, telling someone you will bring them a gift or certain item, giving your children the set amount of allowances, showing up to perform a task, do what you have promised.

SO, when you see a rainbow, give God thanks for keeping His promise. Remember as we were created in His image, we also want to keep our promises. Make fewer promises and fulfill the ones you make. Let trust in your words to do what you say, grow in every relationship.

Blessings

Love y’all
