4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12;4-5 ESV
Let’s recap what we have learned so far how the Holy Spirit may interact with you to help you pray the scriptures. Holy Spirit may (1) Highlight words. You can (2) Use a different translation to get fresh perspectives, or (3) Meditate and use questions. Today is similar to Highlighted Words, but a little different.
Trigger words or phrases carry an emotional thought or feeling with them. Paul says in Hebrews that the word of God is sharper than a double edged sword, penetrating our thoughts and mind. When we read, and I like reading it aloud, it brings a thought to our mind of something that has been weighty or been in our thoughts recently.
For example, you are reading Psalm 23 and the phrase , yea though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil. God reminds you of a friend who has recently lost their spouse. Make a note to call them later, but take the next few moments to pray for them. During the prayer, Holy Spirit may help you remember several others who have experienced loss lately. Valley of death would be the trigger phrase.
The triggers are not always that obvious. However, if you take the time to let Holy Spirit speak to you while you are reading the passage, He brings phrases that stir up our passions so we pray with empathy and emotion.
The phrase in our Romans verse today for me is “All individual members of one body.” Every person in Jesus has a function. Most of the time when our body parts are working properly, we never notice or even think about how it is helping. BUT when it gets hurt or stops working, our entire body begins to focus on that one spot. It makes me happy that every person has a role and makes me sad for those who don’t feel like their role is significant. These are the emotional triggers to lead my prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to do our function even when no one is noticing us. AND help us to comfort those who are hurting or struggling. Thank you for the majestic way you join us into your body. Stir us up to use our giftings well. In Jesus name, Amen.
Blessings Love y’all
