6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; Romans 12:6 ESV
Is there a command or exhortation to be obeyed in the verse?
When reading the Bible we look for commands, exhortations for us to be doing. For instance, in Matthew 6 Jesus says, “When you pray…when you fast…” The prayer for this verse would naturally lead to you ask the question, “When do I pray or fast?”
If you are not obeying the command, why not?
- Perhaps you did not know the verse before now, but now you do. How will you begin obeying what you have just read? Let that thought lead you into prayer.
- Perhaps you have been lazy or rebellious in implementing the command. Let your prayer time lead you through repentance.
- Perhaps you have let fear and intimidation block you from obeying. Repent and ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit, boldness, and courage. Let your prayer time lead you into a renewed resolve to follow Jesus wherever He may lead
- Perhaps you have been obedient to what God requires of you. Give Him thanks. Let your prayer lead you into gratefulness for His leading. Ask for an increase in His goodness.
In our verse today, Paul tells the readers to use their gifts. Whatever gifts have been apportioned to you, we are expected to be exercising the gifts. Let your prayer time lead through repentance for lack of using the gifts and then lay your heart and life before God to use you as He see fit.
Father, God, we will not be silent. We will not be quiet anymore. God, we have been intimidated far too long, because of the fear of man. We have been afraid to express our gifts for fear of failing or maybe we are afraid of being too extreme and then becoming isolated or alone.
But Paul exhorts us to use our gifts. He says that we express these gifts in proportion to our faith. Then God, PLEASE GROW OUR FAITH. Help us to be bold, strong, and confidant to follow your open doors in our. lives.
Help us to pray bold prayers for the sick and hurting. Help us to share the good news to our friends and family that are lost and needing a life giving relationship with Jesus. People are blind of their desperate need for Jesus. Help us to overcome when we are offended and then quit so easily. Help us to keep doing what you have called us to do. Help us to not judge others who are working for your kingdom differently than us. Instead, help us to bless them.
Father it is time, for the Body of Christ, for those in our churches who call themselves Christians to be the full expression of Jesus here on earth. All of His Body on full display. May all the acts of kindness and bless that Jesus performed be evident through our lives. Let us show great compassion as we seek out the lost for You to save them. Pour forth the beating of your heart into our lives, so that we may walk in perfect rhythm with your Holy Spirit. Help us to pray for your Kingdom to come and for your will to be done. In Jesus name, Amen.
Blessings Love y’all
