If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV
After graduating college, I spent a couple of years as a student intern at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville, Florida. Many life lessons and transformations took place during those two years. One of the secretaries had a small embroidered picture on her desk with the inscription ALL. One day, I asked her what the significance of the picture was. She smiled and said, “it is the biggest word in the Bible.” She gave it to me when I left.
“Confess – homologeó” This is a compound word meaning to speak the same thing. When we confess our sins, we are coming into alignment with God’s perspective about our sinful actions. This would include taking full responsibility and not leaving any room to blame others. It also anticipates “being spoken” and not just remaining in our thoughts of feeling bad.
“Faithful” – Faithful means that God is consistent to forgive us “everytime”. He is not fickle. He doesn’t have a limit on the amount of times that He will forgive the broken hearted. When you start your confession, He will always be there for you, because He is faithful.
“Just” – He will always finish the job of forgiving you. He does it right every time. When you confess you will receive complete forgiveness because He is just or righteous. When Jesus died on the cross, he declared that “It is finished”. The penalty of our unrighteousness had been completely fulfilled. Jesus can grant us total forgiveness and still be “just” in all of His demands on us.
“All” – from HELPS Word Studies –pás (“each, every”) means “all” in the sense of “each (every) part that applies.” ALL would include every bit of unrighteousness that would be included in the sinful action. Jesus forgives you of ALL of your sin.
We serve a wonderful, loving, heavenly Father who forgives ALL of our sin, completely and every time. May you walk in the blessing of ALL today. May you begin to notice the impact in your life because of that very big word in the Bible. God gave Jesus ALL authority in heaven and on earth. And now He commissions us to Go with His blessing. ALL of His blessings fall on His children.
Blessings Love y’all
