You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. I John 4:4 NIV
Knowing where you come from and who’s on your side makes all the difference. Truett Cathy shared some of his own personal transformation in his book, It’s Easier to Build Boys, Than Mend Men. As a teenager, a Sunday school teacher modeled what a true father’s love looks, sounds, and feels like. This teacher would visit Truett at his home in the Federal housing project. He took the Sunday School boys to His son’s cabin and let them experience the outdoors. When Truett grew up, he invested the rest of his life impacting young boys as a Sunday School teaching and through foster care.
Truett had someone model the love of God in his life. Who became the hands, feet, mouth and heart of Jesus in your life?
Our stories are all different, but they have the opportunity to intersect Jesus’ life. When they do, His life story trumps our past story. It doesn’t disappear. It isn’t meaningless. It’s not insignificant. The starting point of the story has moved. Before the foundation of the world (that’s well before your birth) God loved you and had you mind. Jesus is reaching out to the world with his message of love and acceptance through you and I.
You may look the same on the outside. But inside, when you became a child of God, the Spirit of God dwells within you. Everywhere you go, evey moment of the day, every place your feet take you, with every breath you take, the Spirit of God abides within you.
With man it is impossible, but you have God inside you, and all things are possible. Your ability to overcome is TOTALLY connected to the presence of God within you. He will strengthen you. He will give you wisdom. He will love you with everlasting and unconditional love. He will never leave you. He will provide for you. He will lead and guide you. He will remain when everyone else leaves. He enjoys spending time with you. He reveals the truth and the hidden things to you. He makes a way, where there seems to be no way. His plans for you are good and not to harm you, but to give you hope and a future.
When you think of your past, remember it found its end and the beginning at the cross of Jesus. Your next step is with Jesus on your side. You are an overcomer of this world and its ways. Jesus won the victory, past tense. You are In HIm, your story intersected. And now He is in you, writing your new story.
Am I? I AM an overcomer, because Jesus is within me.
Blessings Love y’all
