9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
    By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
    do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
    that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, Lord;
    teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount
    all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes
    as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts
    and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
    I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:9-16
Hiding God’s Word

Thinking on Thursday’s launching pad is always from the Word of God. The writer of Psalm 119 crafted a beautiful piece of literature exalting God’s decrees. In Hebrew, each of the large sections of verses begin with a word following the sequential order of the Hebrew alphabet. The whole chapter focuses on honoring God’s word.

Take some time today to write down this section of verses and memorize this passage in the translation of your choice. Let’s look at how the writer captured his love for the word of God.

9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

  • The Word of God is applicable at a young age…not just for adults
  • The Word of God is for all facets of life, not compartmentalized to “church stuff”

10 I seek you with all my heart;  do not let me stray from your commands.

  • The Word of God is an object to be sought after…more than a theory
  • The Word of God has value for the desires of the heart
  • The Word of God can be used as a guide or ignored. It is a guard rail for holy living

11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

  • The Word of God can be stored in the heart as a most prized possession
  • The Word of God has the power to help avoid sinning

12  Praise be to you, Lord;  teach me your decrees.

  • Worship and the word of God compliment each other
  • Worship positions the heart to receive instruction from God’s word

13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.

  • The Word of God is rehearsed through speaking aloud.
  • Saying what God is saying is easier when we speak God’s word
  • The written word of God is synonymous to God speaking to us

14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

  • The Word of God stirs up the emotion of joy in your life
  • The rejoicing of God’s word can be shared like great riches

15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.

  • It is a good endeavor to take TIME to meditate on God’s word
  • Ask all of the who, what, when, where, and how questions.
  • God’s ways are revealed in His word. Thinking on His word, helps us live according to His ways

16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

  • Neglecting or forgetting God’s word, affects us negatively emotionally, while delighting will include following God’s word
  • Delighting represents the highest value placed on God’s word

The sub points above illustrate how to “think on God’s word”. Start with reading it several times. Write it down. Read it aloud. Think about each word. Quote it from memory. Say it while emphasizing a different word. Ask God to hide it in your heart so He may bring it back to mind at the appropriate time.

On this Thinking on Thursday’s, may you receive a renewed hunger and delight for God’s Word.

Blessings Love y’all
