My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child, I am content. Psalm 131:1-2 NIV
I remember the days when mankind purposed in their heart to build a tower to the heavens to make a name for themselves. Pride and haughtiness lay undetected to the ones who wield their power. But I see, even more than others do, the heart’s ambitions. Recognition is never enough to calm the turbulence in the fight for the king of the mountain. To be known as number one is a fleeting moment as dust in the wind.
The child being weaned has known only the comforts of satisfying his desires when he wants them fulfilled. The mother begins teaching how to wait to fulfill the body’s longings to survive. Anticipation, then fulfillment, leads to comfort, knowing protection and provision will be the norm. The heart and thirst of the child trust his mother.
Quiet yourself, My child. Remember and give thanks for My continuous provision for your needs. Blessed are those who thirst and hunger after righteousness, for you will be filled.
Calm your anxious thoughts. I have been with you throughout this trial and will walk through it with you until the end. Arrests the thoughts which run to and fro in your mind to places of unsettledness. “What if’s” are never My communication prompts in your life. My words are light and the life which leads you to the example of My Son. He knows the cry of “I thirst.”
A weaned child sleeps with contentment upon its mother. When you sleep tonight, know I am present and orchestrating your tomorrow. Cast all of your cares, your anxious thoughts, upon Me. I can handle them all. Then receive My peace which is for My children. Rest, I am leading you to quiet waters and peaceful valleys.
