To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. Titus 1:15 NIV

What’s wrong I asked a young child on the bus? Did you get into trouble at school today? NO, she replied. Somebody ELSE got me in trouble. What do you mean? One of the other girls, no, it was two other girls started “telling on me”…

How can we capture an ongoing purity of thought and conscience?

The word “corrupted” also translated “defiled” is memiammenois in greek. At its root it means to stain as with a paint or dye. The word picture is like a substance passing through a filter in which anything that passes through is tainted with the dye in which the thing is fully stained. Throughout the Bible this corruption of purity occurs because of sin.

To the pure” refers to those without spot or blemish. At its core there is only one substance, no other ingredient is present. Throughout the Bible this would be represented by God’s holiness. “Take off your shoes Moses, this is holy ground”.

This type of purity can only be obtained by God. No will of effort, turning over new leaves, passage of time, bargaining with God, trying to do better, negotiating terms, or sliding scales of comparison of other’s worse sins will accomplish the purging of sin.

Jesus takes on our unrighteousness and gives us a “pure” robe of righteousness. We are now “pure” in our spirit man.  This purity gives us greater awareness to our own depravity and the sins of others in which Jesus is the only answer.

Whenever we sin again, our view of holiness becomes tainted. We are still holy and righteous from God’s perspective, beause He is looking at us through the person of Jesus, but our minds and conscience become jaded. Adam quickly blamed Eve for his violation. Cain feinged ignorance to God after killing his brother.  Achan thought he could keep his sin hidden although many lost their lives because he stole items from Jericho. Ananias and Sapphire conspired to lie about a real estate transaction amount looking for personal approval.

I had a friend who once said, “sin makes you stupid”. It starts us down a path of more wrong decisions and a stream of justifications. We will remain tainted until we confess once again. There is no other way to cleanse our minds. Note: When someone has a jaded view of others and life, there is a good possibility that they are bound in some type of sin. Even if they were mistreated unjustly, they may be harboring unforgiveness – which will cause the impurity.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Notice the word “purify” another translations uses “cleanse”. We keep our hearts, mind, and thoughts pure by coming back to the fountain of Jesus cleansing blood. Only the guilty and those willing to accept personal responsibility can enter in. To confess our sins, means that we agree with God about our reasons for doing what we did and the actual action taken.

May you be pure today. May your mind and thoughts become pure so that you live in peace with God, others and yourself.

My little friend felt like a victim. The truth is she was trapped in her own problems. Deception has a way of blinding each one of us.  May you have eyes to seek clearly and in purity today.

Blessings Love y’all
