being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 NIV
Pam and I watched the movie World Trade Center a few nights ago. The movie follows two Port Authority Policemen who get trapped in the rubble of the buildings which collapsed. The two men kept encouraging each other to stay alive. When the paramedic reaches one of the men, he fades in and out ready to die. The rescue team were constantly calling him by name and saying, “Stay with us John. Don’t give up John. You are going to make it out of here. Don’t give up…”
Those who have hung out with me know that I am prone to break out in spontaneous prayer. It just wells up and I have to give voice to the cry of my heart. That scene prompted me toward prayer in which I stood up and faced our picture window. This is the place where I pray for our city, country and world.
“Dear God, there are people trapped tonight, right now, who feel like giving up. Some are ready to end their lives. Some have no hope to continue. Some are ready to quit. God, I am asking you tonight, right now to send hope to those who have none. Even though it is midnight, you can bring light to those who are struggling. One word from you has the power to change the downward spiral of thinking. I pray for those who are alone and feel they have no friends. I pray for those who feel like the world is crashing down upon them. I pray for those who feel beaten down no matter how many times they have tried to get up. I pray for those who cried themselves to sleep tonight. I pray for those who feel hopeless with no knowledge of which way to go next. Jesus draw near to the broken hearted. Jesus, would you let those who are crying in desperation hear your voice of love and commitment. Would you let them remember a promise that you always complete what you started. Would you reconnect them with a spirit filled, Jesus loving, follower of God. I cry out ‘Don’t give up! Hope is on the way!’
When I get to heaven I will find out who God was having me intercede for that night. Please know this. The devil loves to isolate and make the walls close in around you, BUT Jesus always leads to light and love.
Maybe you are not that person who needed that prayer…BUT you may be the answer for the one who needs to hear that someone cares. You may be the one to use your voice to encourage the hopeless. Someone may need you to tell them there is hope and to not give up. Who will you tell?
Faithful is He who calls you and He will also bring it to pass. The reason that you don’t give up? Jesus, the lover of your soul, is pursuing you to bring you hope and life.
Blessings Love y’all
