My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Psalm 57:7 NIV

My Heart is Steadfast

I am thinking about the song On Christ the Solid Rock.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

The Psalmist was complaining about people who were out to get him. They spoke evil of him and were pursuing him to kill him. He had a right to be overwhelmed. The Psalm shifts on this verse. The Psalmist speaks to himself to be steadfast. After hearing “my heart is steadfast”, he speaks it again. This time he moves into worship.  Worship is the expression of one who finds their heart trusting, believing, relying and anchoring their lives upon the solid rock of God.

Let’s look at some steadfast declarations in the sea of overwhelmness.

  • When I’ve prayed for a specific request and the answer has not come, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I feel so lonely and isolated, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I just don’t see any way out, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When my physical health doesn’t get any better, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When the friend that I prayed for so intensely doesn’t pull through, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I stand in the failures of my own attempts to make things happen, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I don’t want to forgive, have no desire to make things right, and I am wallowing in my own pity party of being treated unfairly, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I’ve messed up the uptenth time and feel unworthy, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I cry for mercy and get tired of waiting or don’t wait at all, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I can’t turn off all the negativity that is swirling around in my head and the devil’s thoughts make more sense than yours, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When others ask “where is this God who loves you and yet lets chaos continue when people are hurt?”, my heart is steadfast in you O God.
  • When I don’t have answers to what I should do next, my heart is steadfast in you O God.

Like Peter, we must come continually to the declaration, “where else could we go? You alone have the words of life!

May you be encouraged to take the first step into steadfastness. Declare it as true over your life.

Then follow the next step and say it again for your heart to hear.

Then move to a place of worship as your eyes move away from despair into the love and security of God’s presence.

Don’t feel bad if you have to repeat these steps often. You will find your heart longing to be with Him always.

Say it with me, “My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.”

Blessings Love y’all!
