22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment. Matthew 15:27-28 NIV

Hope for the Hurting

We are not told the age of the young girl healed, nor of her difficulties. But they were real and her dilemma made it into the scriptures. May this fictional account bring you hope and faith.

The Drama

Daughter: What difference does it make if I stay away from our temple of worship? You always say the Jewish god will help us, why not our Ashera. She seems to care more about us and our people.

Mother: It doesn’t make sense to you, my child. Because of my  pregnancy with you, it helped free me from the temple women.

Daughter: The temple women are beautiful and well taken care of…

Mother: And abused and used. I don’t want that life for you. Please child, stay away! Ashera will lead you only to harm. They wanted to take you at birth, but they let you live.

Daughter: I have only heard good things about her. Mom, you are just trying to push your old life on me, I will do as I please.

Later, the daughter went with some friends to the outer court of Ashera’s temple. One young man, very good looking, came and talked with the girls. He shared fruit and some of the most delicious desserts with them. He invited them back for the party happening later that week. Everyone was invited.

The daughter faked sleep and awoke to meet her friends to go to the party. Only one other showed up, but they decided to go together. The young man noticed them and invited them into the banquet hall with a table filled with more food than she had ever seen at one time. She thought to herself, “Mom has been lying and holding back from me. We struggle daily for food, but here, there is plenty.”

She tried the wine, Ashera’s dedicated drink. It was delicious. The dizziness came upon her slowly but increased. The next moments, maybe hours, were a blur. She only remembered “no”, “stop”, sobbing, and then weeping as she was left to the morning sunrise revealing her disgrace. She was only 11.

It wasn’t the shame that caught her mom’s attention, it was the outburst of anger and rage. A dark cynicism surrounded her face as she recounted the ways that she loathed men, all men. The mom had hoped that time would heal, but her daughter sank into more depression.

The hatred which spewed forth from her mouth was the first acknowledgment that her daughter was being vexed by evil spirits. The daughter was incapable of thinking good thoughts or perhaps faking a smile. There were nightmares in which she awoke screaming and tearing the bed sheets. She was often found scrubbing herself raw unto bleeding while repeating, “I want to be clean”.

Mother: I have heard of a man who may be able to help you.

Daughter: No man can help, they are the ones who hurt. Don’t bring him near me. What makes you think I need help, and what could this man do?

Mother: My cousin heard from a man across the way at the Gadarenes. She said he described being bound by demons…

Daughter: maybe he is one of the ones who hurt me.

Mother: He tells of all of the crazy thoughts he would have and how he would take rocks to cut himself. He was naked and out of his mind.

Daughter: Are you trying to say, I’m crazy?

Mother: No, but we need help. This man’s name is Yeshua..

Daughter: That’s Jewish…I hate the Jews.

Mother: At this point you hate everyone…including me.

Daughter: So, why are you telling me about this?

Mother: My cousin said that Yeshua is walking through our region and praying for people too.

The Scriptures: 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

Daughter: Don’t you dare bring that man into our house

Mother: I believe He is our only hope.

The Scriptures: 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

Back in the village the daughter had been sleeping, but she awoke suddenly to the worst headache that she could remember. She felt fear and rage rising up. Something was stirring inside and it made her want to scream at everyone and everything.  Lydia, the cousin, heard the screams and came into the home. Speaking gently, she held the daughter in comfort who was still writhing in pain.

The Scriptures: 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

The Scriptures:24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

Mother: Why do these men not let me draw near to Yeshua? I just saw Him heal another person, why not my daughter? Nothing will stop me from making my appeal to Him. Mercy must be available to all. I am desperate. I will beg as a slave.

The Scriptures:25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

The Scriptures: 26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

Mother: In her own thoughts. Did He just call me a dog? This is what the Jews think of us Canaanites. I should tell him how wrong he is. When you are truly desperate and in need a beggar will take anything.

The Scriptures: 27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

Mother: I’m not too proud to beg for my daughter’s life. He is the only one who can save my daughter. He only needs to say the words.

Back at the house Lydia is still holding the troubled girl. Lydia begins to whisper and sing the name of Yeshua. The daughter becomes stiff as a board. Lydia continues to sing.

The Scriptures: 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Daughter to Lydia: After a long gasp of air and sigh. They’re gone!!!

Lydia: What are you talking about, child?

Daughter: The fog has lifted off of my mind, I can think clearly once again. I feel joy, laughter, and all giggly inside. I’m free. Where is mom? I must tell her.

The mother walked back to the village with hope and uncertainty mixed together. Yesua’s words came forth with peace and courage for her. Was her daughter truly healed? She approached her house with the sound of laughter echoing through the windows.

The end and the beginning

Demonic oppression is real. We don’t have to be afraid, but neither should we act if it doesn’t exist.

As I said at the beginning of the blog, we don’t know how she became possessed by evil spirits. One of many doorways for evil spirits to harass is through sexual activity outside of marriage. Not a demonic influence with every sinful act, but it opens the door for them to gain a legal right to bring bondage into your life.

If you engaged in premarital sex, molested by a friend, or engage in pornography, there is a good probably that you are plagued with spirits of lust. Strength of will is insufficient to win this battle. Deliverance with embracing the truth of God’s word is the key.

If this is one of your struggles, say this prayer from your heart and find another Christian for you to humble yourself before to walk out the joy of deliverance.

Dear Jesus, Through ignorance and my own selfish desires I have engaged in _______________. I hear your Spirit telling me that I can be free.  I ask first that you forgive me for my wrongful action. Wash me and make me clean. With your cleansing, I will be made as white as snow, just as if I’d never done wrong.

Now I cancel every claim that the enemy has used against me concerning this wrongful act. The blood covers my sin. The enemy has no more rights over me.

In Jesus name, I command spirits of lust and others associated with it to leave. Amen

Share this prayer that you prayed with another. Bringing your salvation into the light is another way to stand against the enemy. He likes darkness, deception and keeping things hidden. Your confession brings his plans into the light of Christ’s freedom.

I am praying that you will find solid Christian friends who can help you walk out your deliverance.

Praise God for mom and dad’s who are willing to stand in the gap for their children

Praise God when Jesus sets us free we are free indeed.

Blessings Love y’all
